That day the store was nearly empty, and only the security cameras noticed a woman in a dark coat and red scarf slowly walking toward the yogurt aisle.
She glanced around, made sure no one was nearby, calmly removed the lid, and began eating the yogurt right there, as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world. Then, as if nothing had happened, she picked up a banana, peeled it, ate it, and tossed the peel into a discount bin. Next, she opened a pack of cookies, ate a few, and carefully hid the rest behind other products.
When a young cashier passed by, he at first thought she was simply looking at the items. But when he noticed the opened package in her hand, he politely approached:
“Ma’am, you need to pay for what you’ve already opened. That counts as damaged goods.”
She jumped as if offended.
“I was just tasting! I have the right to know what I’m buying! One yogurt won’t bankrupt your store, and I’m a retiree!” she shouted so loudly that even the cashiers looked up.
“Tasting is meant for samples,” the cashier explained calmly. “Opened items are considered damaged. No one can buy them anymore.”
“Don’t tell me what to do!” she screamed. “I shop here every day! I have the right! And anyway, this is all just a scheme to cheat people!”
HER SHOUT ECHOED THROUGH THE STORE. SOME CUSTOMERS STOPPED AND WATCHED AS THE WOMAN CONTINUED WAVING HER HANDS AND ACCUSING THE STORE OF ‘FRAUD’ – FROM ‘INFERIOR PRODUCTS’ TO ‘DISCRIMINATION AGAINST SENIORS.’
But the climax came when the cashier calmly suggested calling the manager.
“Call him!” she roared. “Let him explain why old people are being robbed! You must give me everything for free, I’m a retiree.”
The woman was convinced she was completely right, but what the staff did next stunned everyone.
The manager arrived quickly. He looked at the empty yogurt cup, then at the camera, then at her.
“Either you pay for the item or we call the police,” he said shortly.
The woman paled but maintained her stance.
“Just take your money! I would have paid anyway, who do you take me for?” she hissed, throwing coins on the floor as if doing the store a favor.
AND AS SHE LEFT, SHE STILL MURMURED TO HERSELF:
“I’LL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS STORE! Because of your greed, you just lost a customer!”
She marched proudly to the exit, as if she had taught the store a lesson.
The employees looked at each other. One whispered softly, almost inaudibly:
“Thank God…”
The colleagues struggled to keep their smiles in check.
